Embark on a 4-hour educational & cultural ecotour in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, Australia. Turtle Discovery will take you to the enchantments of the Great Sandy Marine Park and let you discover the Aboriginal culture of the Butchulla people.

In this tour you’ll see the rich coral reef while on board the Milbi, one of Australia’s largest bottom glass boats. Snorkeling equipment is also offered for those who wish to have an up close experience of the Great Sandy Marine Park’s diverse marine life. You’ll have opportunities to see fish habitat, coral reefs, turtles, dolphins, colonies of seabirds, and possibly a reef shark or dugong.

On top of the ecotour, you’ll also gain insight into the Aboriginal culture of the local Butchulla  people. You’ll learn Butchulla names and meanings of significant local landmarks.

Moreover, you will be given time to explore Weenandin (Round Island) where a healthy lunch will be enjoyed. If the conditions permit, the tour may take you to visit the wondrous Pelican Banks, an area known for its crystalline waters. This is perfect if you want to go for a swim or relax on the white sand.

Turtle Discovery tour departs daily at 10:30 AM and returns around 2:30 PM. The tour requires a minimum of 4 passengers to operate. Healthy lunch, tea, coffee, biscuits and snorkeling equipment is provided in this tour.

Tour price is $115 per adult and $70 per child. A family package is available for $320, good for two adults and two children. Seniors can avail a discounted price of $100.

The departure point of this tour is at Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours in Great Sandy Straits Marina Terminal. The terminal is located at 17 Buccaneer Drive, Urangan. It is about 307 km from Brisbane and 380 km from Gold Coast.

There are bus services from Brisbane going to Hervey Bay. You can catch the bus departing from Parkland Crescent which is accessible via Parkland Boulevard. The bus will arrive at Hervey Bay Transit Centre. The travel time takes about 6 hours.

Airlines such as Qantas and Virgin Australia operate flights going to Hervey Bay if you are from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Mackay.
