Learn about Yolŋu people in a crossing country tour that springs lasting friendships!

Experience a crossing country tour that has all the makings of a genuine cultural adventure. Visit different remote Yolŋu homelands in this 5 days and 4 nights journey. Families with children are welcome to join in this life changing experience as this tour is suitable for people of all ages. The tour does not only give you the opportunity to participate in cultural programs and activities, it also takes you to incredible landscapes throughout the area.

Immerse yourself in the Yolŋu community by learning about Yolŋu kinship, traditional lore and both their spoken and sign language. Throughout your trip, you can participate in weaving, traditional spear fishing and gathering of bush foods and medicines. You can also dance (Bunggul), participate in storytelling and the making and playing of the Yidaki (didjeridu). This tour which is developed by Yolŋu for the Yolŋu allows generation of family members on remote homelands to share their culture with non-Aboriginal people.

The cultural tour departs from Nhulunbuy. The minimum group size is 6 and the maximum group size is 18. Smaller or larger groups can be catered for on request, prices will change depending on the number of people. You will spend three nights on a Yolŋu Homeland with a simple indoor or outdoor accommodation. After that, you will be accommodated in a motel in Nhulunbuy on your fourth night. Accommodation is on a twin share basis.

The tour price is $2,399 per person. Twin share subject to a minimum of 8 participants with single supplement of $125 per person. A family package good for 2 adults and 2 children is available for $8796.

By Self-drive

From Darwin, you can reach your destination via National Hwy 1 and State Route 24. From Cairns, it is accessible via State Route 24.

Air access to Nhulunbuy is regular via Darwin and Cairns Airports by Airnorth jet flights. The average flight time from Cairns to Gove takes 1 hour and 55 minutes whilst Darwin to Gove takes 1 hour and 24 minutes. 

By Sea

It is now possible to travel from Darwin to Nhulunbuy aboard a cargo ship, Sea Swift. It operates cargo ships that supply many coastal communities of the Northern Territory and take passengers.
