Experience the life of the Tjapukai—a group of Australian Aboriginal people who are the original custodians of the rainforest around Kuranda region. Unravel this rich culture in Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, Smithfield, Queensland. The Cultural Centre is just about 20-30 minutes drive from Cairns.

This is a combined package rate of that includes the Tjapukai General Admission and Cultural Creations.

The Tjapukai General Admission will have you experience the world’s oldest living culture come to life through traditional dance, art and interactive demonstrations. Watch the Tjapukai people demonstrate their ancient techniques and the creation of the world through a live performance. You’ll get to play the didgeridoo, learn hunting techniques as well as learn how to throw boomerangs and spears. It's packed full of experience and learnings!

Your admission for Tjapukai General Admission is approximately 2.5 hour experience and it includes:

  • Tjapukai Aboriginal Dance Performance
  • Bush Foods & Medicines Presentation
  • Hunting & Weapons Presentation
  • Didgeridoo Show
  • Boomerang & Spear Throwing

 

For the Cultural Creations activity, you can choose to attend the 09:00, 13:00, 13:30 or 14:00 guided tours. With this experience, you’ll learn traditional art & crafts with Indigenous artists! The artists themselves will teach you the traditional way of painting your own boomerang. You’ll also create your own unique jewellery from native crystals, seeds and wooden beads. You’ll be able to take home three unique handmade souvenirs as a remembrance of your cultural adventure! Your admission for Cultural Creations is an hour of experience that includes the following:

  • Paint a boomerang with an Indigenous artist
  • Learn the art of weaving
  • Make traditional Jewellery
  • Take home your unique handmade souvenirs

 

Rates of this tour is at $88 per person and only $58 per child (from 4 to 14 years old). A family package is available for $234 which is good for 2 adults and 2 children. The tour operates on weekdays and weekends. Time slots are 9:00 A.M and 11:30 A.M.

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park is located approximately 12 km north of Cairns and about 50 km south of Port Douglas.

By Self-drive

From Cairns, you can reach your destination via National Route 1. 
From Port Douglas, the park can be accessible via Captain Cook Hwy / State Route 44.

By Bus

Catch a bus operated by Translink Route 123 from the Cairns City Place Bus Stop and returns from Tjapukai Bus Stop. 

By Taxi

You can take a taxi with Cairns Taxis. It will take you directly to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in approximately 12 minutes. The estimated cost range is $55 - $70.
